1906 DATED REMEMBRANCE ANTIQUE VINTAGE ALBUM QUILT – MANY SIGNATURES WITH PROVENANCE!
This gorgeous handmade quilt is a dated and signed remembrance piece made in the ALBUM, CHIMNEY SWEEP or CHRISTIAN CROSS – #3266 BB pattern.
I purchased this quilt in 2000 from Seattle: USA….it measures 70″ x 84”.
This beautiful quilt was made for a Nebraskan lady by the women of her community before she and her family left to move out West….the quilt was purchased from the great great grandaughter.
Perhaps my favourite block is the one simply signed ‘Little Robbert’ with two B’s….bless!
There are 56 x hand pieced Album blocks each measuring 9” x 9”….set in 7 x 8 rows of blocks.
A red, white and blue colour scheme dominates this quilt….within the blocks each maker has used a wide variety of indigo and cadet blues, Turkey and claret reds, double pinks and a few mourning greys set against a background of plain cream muslin.
Each of the 56 blocks is signed using embroidery floss by it’s maker.
There is a cream muslin backing with a whisper thin cotton batting….the quilt was then handquilted using a double cross hatch pattern which echos the block.
This quilt is in unused and near perfect condition with no tears, frays, major stains or fading!
It has been stored backside out so there is a little discolouration to the fold lines and edges of the quilt which will be easily removed with a gentle soak.
There are no odours evident!
