#36 – Compass Star – OPA Sampler SAL 2023 – is a Digital PDF Pattern
I was unable to pin down this unique block in any of my reference books.
The closest I found is in Maggie Malone’s block book: Starry Compass #3633.
Interestingly that block isn’t referenced in BB…..all I could find was #3400 – Slashed Star, #3847 – Calico Compass
with a touch of Chips and Whetstones – #4787.
Half of the background fabric of this block was totally shagged so I was able to use the better section in other blocks.
There was very little difference re colour value within the original block so I made some design choices to highlight the pattern.
Replacing the faded green that surrounded the outer edge of the block was an easy choice……can you see what I did with some of the cheddar pieces?
#36 Compass Star is a better candidate for hand piecing….it actually isn’t as difficult as you may think.
This pattern contains:

• Piecing diagram to assemble your block
• Templates ready to trace for hand piecing

#36 – Compass Star – OPA Sampler SAL 2023 is a PDF pattern available as a digital download.
Simply ‘add to cart’, enter your details, click ‘proceed to checkout’ and then click ‘place order’.
After that your green download link will appear.
You will subsequently receive an email with the download link should you happen to miss that step.
Important:
To ensure accurate sizing of your blocks you first need to save the file onto your computer.
Open that file using Adobe Reader and turn off scaling: ie select ‘Print at 100%’ or ‘Actual Size’.

Once you have printed your pattern be sure to measure the one inch grid which found at the bottom left hand side of the page.
Remember, printing directly from a link usually alters the formatting and size of your pattern!
I’ve also added a 6″ grid PDF in the shop so that you can check your printer scaling which will show up any printer anomalies before you start.
